The downstairs Training Center at the Darien YMCA is full of surprises for anyone looking for a high-quality fitness experience in a boutique setting, offering support to all aspects of training and fitness. From hardware to technology to personnel, the Darien YMCA provides a full-court press toward your best, most fit self, according to officials for the organization.
Individuals and small groups working out in the Training Center may utilize a collection of traditional exercise and fitness equipment, such as more than a thousand pounds of kettlebells, tractor tires, battle ropes, free weights, and weight machines. Assault Air bikes, Concept 2 rowers, Jacob’s Ladder, TRX suspension straps, and a pull-up bar spanning the ceiling are also available.
The Darien Y now offers the use of a new fitness assessment tool, the InBody 570, which goes beyond traditional body composition analysis. With participants standing on the base and grasping the handles, the hand and foot electrodes send safe, low-level currents through the body and measure body fat percentage, lean muscle mass and water weight distribution. These measurements provide critical data points, which can help in achieving optimal fitness and health. A Darien Y member said, “The InBody helped me to see how simple changes to my diet and exercise plan can increase my muscle mass, decrease my body fat and improve my overall health.”
The Y’s Lean Machine, a program based on body fat loss, will incorporate the use of InBody assessments in its upcoming session beginning in January. Registration is currently underway at the Y’s Wellness Center.
The Darien Y’s Health and Fitness Department has a staff of personal trainers, ranging from physical therapists to CrossFit specialists, who work in a small group or with individuals and utilize the full complement of equipment and technology found in the Training Center.
